Follower of the Week: @SeanMcGee19

@SeanMcgee19

Sean McGee, born February 18th, 1989, began singing at a young age in his church choir.
Born in a town known by most for the Cedar Point amusement park and tourism, Sandusky, Ohio.
It was after many trials and tribulations that he dove in to his music head first.

His musical influences began at the age of 8 when his grandmother got him into The Temptations, Smokey Robinson and Al Green. Their music inspired him and helped shape his musical talents. His first group was formed a year later, BDS. Together, for several years, the group made great music. Unfortunately, the group eventually separated due to creative difference.

Heartache, disappointment and troubles seemed to be all life had for him after the group split. Sean's grandmother, his greatest drive and influence, passed. Parents divorced. Times at dad's house became rough after a few bad decisions which led to Sean being kicked out. Mom disowned him after dropping out of High School. Needless to say, he was looking for a brighter day, so he turned to his music.

Sean McGee tells his story

It was with the emotions of all these downfalls that lead to his song "My Story," which millions connected with and loved nation wide. In just one night on myspace the track had over 16 million plays, which made the unsigned independent artist an overnight sensation.

 "My Story"

His mixtape "My Life My Story My Love" featuring the hit "My Story"dropped on DatPiff over 2 months ago.

Here is another track, "Be Alone" from the mixtape:

After everything that has gone on in Sean's life, he continues to make amazing music. He was tapped by the Ohio Hip Hop Awards as an up-and-coming artist which helped him catch the eyes of DreamLife Productions. DreamLife is Cleveland based record company with which Sean signed a record and management deal.

Since signing, he has traveled to Atlanta, New York and New Jersey to meet with and perform for producers. His talent, work ethic and overall demeanor makes it hard to believe he is just in his early 20s.
I believe his journey has just begun.

The thing I find most inspiring about Sean and his story is that, rather than letting the troubles of his life interfere with his music, he lets them drive his music. There is nothing better than music that has true meaning and comes from an honest place like a hurt heart.
