Follower of the Week: @Sevdaproducer

Sev began his career at an early age growing up in the Bronx. He began his road as an aspiring rapper, by recording demo tapes. He and DJ L-Smooth recorded demos using 2 turntables and a tape deck. After several meetings within the industry, he realized he had to start laying tracks over original beats.

While working at a fast food restaurant, he began shopping around for producers who were available to make some original beats for him. Being he was only making minimum wage, he could not work with anyone on his level because the price was too high.

He discussed this issue with DJ L-Smooth, who wanted to help! He gave Sev a program called Fruity Loops and told him with a little work he could be making his own songs, top to bottom, with the program. Sev taught himself how to use the program and within days, it was second nature.

To test the value of his beats, Sev began to hold listening parties for local rappers. He received positive feedback and it was then that he decided being the next best Producer was his future. After deciding he was going to devote his money, time and energy into his craft, he bought some new equipment. In early 2000 he took his entire tax return and bought himself an MPC2000XL and ROLAND JD990 sounds module and got to work!

Here's a video that talks more about what he is doin these days...

Most recently, Sev produced a record for Lloyd Banks V5 Mixtape. He has a lot in the works right now and is making major moves but it is not my place to put his business out there!!!

If you do want to know what he is up to you can become a member of his website... Sevgotbeats.ning.com !! Joining his site will give you access to networking with other artists, beats and up to date info about what Sev is currently working on!

Since Sev started his Production career after not being able to find affordable beats, he is constantly offering FREE beats for download on his website.
"I feel that you have to give back in life and I will never forget where i came from.Occassionally i will allow artists to download beats for free to use for freestyles/mixtapes."
Just don't let him catch you tryin to sell his beats!! You will end up with NOTHING!

Sev updates his beats every Tuesday, loading new heat onto the audio player on his website.

Zeta Tau Alpha and Alpha Kappa Alpha now share First Place of the Sprite Step Off

So, yesterday I posted a little entry about the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha winning the Sprite Step Off! Well this morning I woke up to find out that there had been a lot of controversy over the white girls winning the step off so the sponsors, Coca-Cola, decided to call the competition a tie.

Now, the Sprite Step Off winners are Zeta Tau Alpha, a white sorority from University of Arkansas and Alpha Kappa Alpha, a black sorority from Indiana University. Both received $100,000 in scholarships.

Coca-Cola released a statement saying:
Due to the extremely narrow margin between the first and second place winning sororities, we conducted a further post-competition review and discovered a scoring discrepancy. There is no conclusive interpretation, nor definitive resolution for the discrepancy."

Was there really a "scoring discrepancy" or was that just Coca-Cola's attempt at putting out the flame?

Although Step is a historically African art form, I don't see the problem with others taking part. Maybe it is because I am a member of a MultiCultural Fraternity in which I step along side people of many different races and ethnicities.

I can't say if I think the AKAs deserve to share first place or not because I have only seen the performance by Zeta Tau Alpha, but If I was a member of the third place, Delta Sigma Theta Step team, I would be a little mad! If it was that close, why not call a rematch and get everyone back to ATL sometime next month and have them compete again?

Become A Fan

OK so anyone with a Facebook page knows all about the fan pages! When it started it made sense! The pages were a way to let people know what you like without having to list it all out. Now it is getting out of control!! There are pages for the stupidest things and some people (including myself hahaha) are fans of hundreds of pages!

Here are some of the stupid Fan pages:
These should have never been made!! This is what happens when anyone can make fan pages about ANYTHING!
  • Stopping the microwave before it hits 0:00 to avoid hearing the beeps (there is also "I stop the microwave at 1 sec so I don't have to hear the beeps")
  • Finding money in your pocket - I mean DUH!! Who doesn't?
  • 63 Notifications later and I regret liking your status! (as stupid as this is, it is so true!!! You like or comment on something and before you know it, you have notifications people you have never seen before just because they liked/commented on the same thing!)
  • I feel my phone vibrate when it doesn't
  • "Hey"...2 hours later "Hey" no its too late I don't want to talk to you now
  • FACEBOOK (COME ON! REALLY??)
Here are some that may actually help describe you:
These are the ones that explain something that happened in your life or a feeling you may have!
  • When I was younger, I would record my favorite songs off the radio onto tape.
  • When I was younger, I had to blow into my video games for them to work
  • I wasn't being mean, I was being honest.
  • I hate when people write "your" when its really "you're" (sorry I can't stand that!)
Here are examples of what a fan page should be! I am a fan of...
  • Sportscenter
  • Music and Lyrics
  • Dinosaurs (That show we all watched when we were younger!)
  • The Wire
  • A Bronx Tale
  • Mexican Food
  • Old School HipHop
  • New York Pizza
  • Dunkin Donuts
I looked up the most popular fan pages as of January 2010 and found a list of the Top 30. Here are some of the best and craziest:
  • #1 is Michael Jackson with 10.5 million fans!
  • #3 is Barack Obama with just under 7.1 million fans!
  • #4 is FACEBOOK with 6.6 million fans!
  • #10 is RIP Michael Jackson (We Miss You) with just under 4.7 million fans!
  • #16 is 'I need a vacation!!!' with just under 4.4 million fans!
  • #20 is 'I hate waking up during a good dream and it won't come back' with 3.8 million fans!
  • #27 is 'Randomly laughing because you remembered something funny' with 3,331,980 fans!
  • #28 is 'Random laughter when remembering something' with 3,326,008 fans!
  • #30 is PIZZA with 3.3 million fans!
#27 and #28 are the same thing yet don't have the same amount of fans! Weird!

Soon there will be a fan page called "I hate all these stupid fan pages!" Its gonna happen!

Well that was my "Snowed In" tweet of the day!!

Zeta Tau Alpha- KILLED IT!

Now, I'm sure a lot of you have seen this video before since it have been circulating for a few days but I had to post it!

Number one, I love that these girls made it to ATL and the Finals of the Sprite Step Off, which were held Feb 20th.
Number two, I love that everyone showed them so much love, I mean, they deserve respect for the show they put on!

The Epsilon Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha from University of Arkansas beat out Alpha Kappa Alpha from Indiana University and Delta Sigma Theta from Clark Atlanta University for first place in ATL!

The fraternity was founded in 1898 at what it is now Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia and is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference.

First Place fits them well as their motto reads "Seek the Noblest" and one of their symbols is a five star crown!

Media Take Out---HORRIBLE!!

Ok so being a News Junky and a Hip Hop head, I have a routine for first thing in the morning news gathering. I turn on News 12 Hudson Valley for my local news then put the MacBook on my lap to start my website routine. First, its emails and online banking then social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. Next, I visit WorldStarHipHop.com, HipHopGame.com, AllHipHop.com and GlobalGrind.com and yes I will admit, eventually I do make it to MediaTakeOut.com

Media Take Out is the WORST!! I asked some of my followers on Twitter how they feel about the site...

Aphrodisanay @KelzAKARealTalk I feel that it is funny sometimes but other times dat shit be way off! and they just be makin shit up!

DRock813 Garbage!!!! Str8 UP!! RT @KelzAKARealTalk: Workin on my blog right now... Tell me how yall feel about Media Take Out!?!?!?!!?

PiffingtonSteel RT: @KelzAKARealTalk Where do you go to get ur Hip Hop news??? Why??<<>mediatakeout.com (hilarious)Worldstarhiphop.com(the truth)

Based off these responses I would think that MTO needs to change its slogan from, "The Most Visited Urban Website in the World." Although this could be true (I didn't look at the numbers to see its validity) I feel like MTO is like a GaGa performance; People are watching just to see how much of a train wreck it is this time! With MTO, I feel like frequent visitors (like myself) look just to see what madness they have made up this time!

Well, I did some research on the site itself to see what I could find, and surprisingly enough, I found some interesting information.

The website was created by a former Corporate Lawyer. Its founder has three degrees, two being from NYCs Columbia University. I mean if I had three degrees, I would be doing something more legit with my knowledge than running a gossip style website.

MTO claims to have broken many stories like Michael Jordan's divorce and Remy Ma's charges. The website also claims to have been quoted on BET, MTV and by people like Wendy Williams and Howard Stern. I have never heard any of these outlets quote MTO!

I agree with @Aphrodisanay when she said "they just be makin shit up!"

They posted this video today! Jay-Z talkin about how he and Bey were not together for Valentine's Day. MTO put the Headline "Trouble in Paradise?????"

Now, Beyonce was in Chile on Valentine's Day for a concert. MTO likes to post pictures and put the little "thought bubbles" on them. They had pictures of Beyonce and her security arriving in Chile with "thought bubbles" that read, "I don't know about Bey's marriage, how many days out of the year are they even together?" and "I understand that she's got a career and all, but when you neglect your hubby, you're asking for a lotta trouble."

IT'S CALLED A POWER COUPLE ON THEIR GRIND!!! Stop hatin'!

MTO is also said to be receiving 90% of their information from from people like hairstylists, body guards and angry ex's! We need more reliable sources then mad ex girlfriend's who want to seek revenge because he's got his new girl pushin' the Benz he bought for her 3 months before they broke up!! COME ON!!!!
