Follower of the Week: @RDC_ENT

Today's FoTW is well deserved!! These dudes have been sending me tracks for months and as I have said before, the more you push, the more I am willing to help and support.

@RDC_ENT

Runnin' Da City Entertainment is bringing a unique, new sound to the world of Hip Hop. With six members from both Africa and Costa Rica, their style is anything but ordinary.

Sapp, P Eazy, Y-O, Jay-Lou, Zo and Kenito know that hard work and perseverance is the key to RDC success. Although they have only been on a heavy grind for the last two years, the members of RDC have become a family over the last ten years. These six men have been taking advantage of every opportunity that comes their way. Trying to come up as an artist out of the DMV has proven to be a road full of huge potholes and often times, dead ends but RDC is prepared to fight all obstacles.

What makes RDC enjoyable to listen to, is the diversity found within the group. With six members, there are different styles of flow, different stories to tell, different forms of creativity, different performers, all keeping the collective RDC experience interesting.

Keeping it all in the "family" is another thing I love about RDC. When you have your own producers, P Eazy's brother J-Sparks and your own engineer, Kenito, to mix down a track as soon as the recording phase is finished, there is no excuse for laziness. RDC knows how to exercise all of its abilities as well. Not every track has all six members, which I think is key. If every track has all six members laying out 8 bars, what good will that do anyone? You have to pick who fits on the beat, who can relate to the story trying to be told on a track, etcetera, for any track to work let alone one coming out of a group like RDC.

Performing throughout the DMV has had a major impact on RDC and their presence in the area.
The more shows and appearances you do, the more you are self promoting so RDC has been doing the most to help themselves.  Opening for acts like Nipsey Hustle,  Mac Miller and Young Money, to name a few, as well as hosting DCs Lotus Lounge, the RDC fan base has quickly become something serious.

Jamar Nolan is a 21 year old artist coming out of Atlanta. Originally from New Haven, CT and lived in the Bay Area for some time, he is widely influenced. Musical influences include Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Common, The Roots and many more. J had put the pen to the paper a few times and tried a couple of group ventures before finding his spot with The Manifest Movement in 2007.

Since 2009 there has been a heavy push in the release of his music. The release of his first mixtape, 'Chasing Cool',  in May 2009, was his first internet release and gave him a needed push. He soon there after, in October, released 'Resilience,' as a follow up. He released "Going In" as a single and shot a video for the track featuring Zayani Rose. The release of 'Broken Dreams' with a group of bloggers, this became his most widely distributed and accepted offering yet.

ALSO began writing at a young age although his dream was never to become a rapper.
More focused on basketball, he saw friends and classmates spitting bars in his High School halls, he was more into writing the lyrics than being paid to rap.

While preparing to attend Clark Atlanta in pursuit of the dream his father had of him
becoming an Engineer, ALSO felt as though it wasn't right for him.
He knew there was something greater ahead of him.

It was at the age of 21 that he began to take his lyrical skills more serious.
He was determined to turn, what was just a hobby growing up, into his mastered craft.

In his first year, he began to hit the studio heavy and released a mixtape.
He was writing songs and recording.
ALSO was doing what he never thought he would and began to stack tracks.
Others may not have appreciated his music and saw the potential behind it right away,
but he had enough faith in himself and drive to keep working hard.

With the release of his first mixtape, ALSO fond his groove in the studio and hasn't stopped.
Continuing with his music career, he hopes to create great music that simply speaks for itself.
With his talent and hard work, showcase appearances and the right exposure,
he hopes to change the game of Hip Hop lyrically.

FInding his groove has found to be beneficial as he now has 4 mixtapes under his belt and music being played on Power 105.1, thanks to Jovonn the Last Don and his NewNY Sunday night radio show!

GA2R BLAQUE or G-BLAQUE, is an artist out of Spring Valley, NY.
Growing up he faces his fair share of challenges which lead to disappointments, pain, abuse and regrets.
While in 5th grade he began to spit as a way to release all these feelings.
Inspired by greats like B.I.G, Jay-Z and Jadakiss, his rapping and songwriting abilities
bring forth a voice and style that remains solid.

His music has been played on NYs Power 105.1 and KissFM. He has been featured on many a mixtape from some of the best mixtape DJs in the game. Blaque is also a winner of Faces in the Crowd Showcase. Winning gave him a chance to sit down with record execs
from SRC/Universal, who had this to say:

Gator Blaque has an energetic stage show that exemplifies his artistic form,
he has a pulse on what todays hip-hop should look and feel like. Gator reps his
state to the fullest and brings New York to the stage every trip.” - J Hatch

Winning also gave him the opportunity to be interviewed by radio and magazine outlets,
which lead to this review:
“He’s a lot better than some 25 yr olds that walk into the building.
His sound is different and hot.” – Jamaal Meeks aka Reality, A&R/SRC/Universal

Always focused on his music, he never forgets about the world around him. After Katrina tore through the Gulf Coast, G-Blaque worked on a track entitled 'Hold On.' The track ran true to the disaster and lead to him being interviewed by his local news, News 12 Hudson Valley.

Now that I gave you a little background, its time to get to WHY G-Blaque gets today's spot!!
I have only known about G-Blaque for a few months and the time was never right.
I always had someone else in mind or another artist had a show that weekend or was dropping a tape and needed the spot more that day, but I always had Blaque in my mind!
Blaque and his RMG family have been making some serious noise and its only right,
I show him and his team some love!

Well, Blaque finally get his spot today, on #BlaqueFriday, due to his mixtape being released TODAY!

20th Follower of the Week UPDATE!!

Being that this will be my 20th Follower of the Week post,
I have decided to go back and pick out some of my favorites and give you a little update!

When I decided to start FOTW, I didn't have the Twitter buzz that I do now and therefore wasn't sure how I would get it done every week or how long it would last.

I have missed a few weeks here and there due to circumstances beyond my control but I try my hardest to get it done because it is one of my favorite parts of RTWK!

My first post was done when I was still in college and I was searching through my Twitfam
looking for  someone worthy of the first spot!

The first Follower of the Week spot went to:
@DeeJaySchemes!

When I wrote about him in August of 2009, he was THE DJ, of Morgantown, WV
and was also doing work in Pittsburgh as well as areas in between.
He was killin' the clubs and was pumping out mixtape after mixtape.

My favorite milestone for him up to that point happened just a few months earlier. I remember him going to Atlanta on a DJ Retreat and coming back hype after all he had met and everything he had done.
It wasn't long after he returned that he released information on him being signed as a DTP DJ!

Having conquered Morgantown and the surrounding area, it was time to find something new. He has changed his Twitter name, moved and began his take over in a new city!

Now, @djschemes has moved on to bigger and better things.
He is a Powerhouse DJ as well as being signed to DTP DJs so, when he was thinking of where to relocate, joining the rest of his Powerhouse family in the DMV was the obvious choice.

Now living in Laurel, Maryland, he has began his takeover of Washington, DC!
You can find him at The Rserve every Friday!
Although he moved out of WV, he can't stay away. He is in Martinsburg, WV
at Red Cafe Lounge every Thursday.

He relaunched his Powerhouse Radio show on Tuesday nights, "Turn It Up Tuesdays."
He as also started a new show on KJMM Tulsa! He does the "Mid-Day Cafe" every Tuesday!
Listen LIVE every week from 1-2pm on KJAMZ 105.3!!!!

This weekend he will be back in Morgantown to DJ for TSM Records as they open for Young Jeezy!!

Sunday he's back in DC celebrating his Birthday with "Status Sundays" at Pure Lounge!

Check out his Follower of the Week feature from August 2009!

FOLLOW @djschemes!!!

Its only right if I transition to the Number 7 spot since he will be on stage with DJ Schemes
this Saturday at Mylan Park in Morgantown, WV.

@HasiWuu

Since his feature in March of this year, he was splitting his time between
 Economics books and the booth.
Hasi Wuu had released 2 mixtapes and was ready to start his third.

Hasi Wuu and his TSM Records family had performed a few shows in Morgantown, the biggest being their opening for Lupe Fiasco at the 2009 Sprite Step-Off.

He is now done with school and putting in even more work in the booth,
which is hard believe based on his time spent before he got his degree.

Hasi Wuu is currently working on music for his new mixtape Hasaan Everything Good.

If your in the Morgantown area, TOMORROW NIGHT, show Hasi Wuu and the rest of TSM Records love and show face at the Young Jeezy concert at Mylan Park!

Check out his Follower of the Week feature from March for more information including downloads!

FOLLOW @HasiWuu!!!

Next, I move on to the Number 12 spot with my fellow Broadcast Journalism Mountaineer,
 @LuvElizabethany

EB started her blog, Love, Elizabethany before graduating from WVU but it was after
she earned her Journalism degree and moved back to Woodbridge, Virginia
that she became one of my favorite bloggers.

It was her "Finding the Real World DC" that lead her into the race for MTVs First TJ or Twitter Jockey!
It was when she was competing for the position that I decided it was the
perfect time for her to get her Follower of the Week spot!

I am sad to report that she did not win the TJ spot but luckily she had just moved to Texas to start working at Candy95!!

Since returning to College Station, Texas from the Live Finale to the WTV TJ Search, she is back to her normal routine of daytime radio on Candy95, Truth or Dare with the internet and just yesterday celebrated the 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of Love, Elizabethany!!

Re-visit her Follower of the Week feature from just a few months ago!

Quick Updates on a few others:

Releasing his latest mixtape Chi - The Ambassador on Saturday, September 25th!!
Visit Datpiff.com for the download next Saturday!

Also releasing his latest mixtape later this month on CasperG.com

Most importantly, FOLLOW @KelzAKARealTalk!!!!

FollowerS of the Week: @MoolaGang

@MoolaGang

Moola Gang, established in 2007, consists of four of
Western Pennsylvania's best producers and emcees.
In the Picture above, from left to right, are members YD, Kilz, Pyrex Press and Louie Lee.

The group came together after Pyrex Press and his connection with
Panama Records came to a demise.
Press wanted to put together a group of the best with great chemistry and work ethic.
He didn't have to look very far to put this team together.
He teamed up with his brother, Louie Lee and close friends Kilz and YD!

The group, going off its Cash Cow theme and drive, easily gave themselves the name Moola Gang.

All four members can rap and produce and although Press brought them together,
he refuses to let people thing one player is more important than another.
Each member has their key role in the groups collective success.

The dynamic seems to be working very well for Moola Gang!
Having in-house producers is one of the best things for a group, I think.
Their buzz grew rapidly in the Pittsburgh area but the boys are beginning to see
that they are also growing  into the international market.

Their track 'Countin' Euros' was getting a lot of International play,
so the boys took off to do shows overseas.

Working with MTV Video Award Winning Director, Bob Tenille on a huge YouTube campaign, getting over half a million views on Imeem.com and being featured in many publications such as Jenesis Mag, Moola Gang is definitely on their way to being one of the best groups out of the Pittsburgh area and being known world wide!

Here are a few of the Moola Gang mixtapes:

A Few of my favorites from Moola Gang:

This was on 4Ts a few weeks ago but I had to include it on this!

In Fall 2009, Moola Gang performed at the Sprite Step-Off at
West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV as one of the opening acts for Lupe Fiasco!!
Since I was there for the performance, I figure its only right if I add this video (which Pyrex so graciously edited me out of!! haha) S/O to my TSM Records Fam and of course DJ Schemes!
